Drug sentencing
The defendant is convicted of selling 70 grams of a substance containing PCP (Level 22) and 250 milligrams of a substance containing LSD (Level 18). The PCP converts to 70 kilograms of marihuana; the LSD converts to 25 kilograms of marihuana. The total is therefore equivalent to 95 kilograms of marihuana, for which the Drug Quantity Table provides an offense level of 24.
1 gm of Heroin = 1 kg of marihuana
1 gm of Alpha-Methylfentanyl = 10 kg of marihuana*
1 gm of Opium = 50 gm of marihuana
1 gm of Codeine = 80 gm of marihuana
1 gm of Methylphenidate (Ritalin) = 100 gm of marihuana
1 gm of Cocaine = 200 gm of marihuana
1 gm of Cocaine Base ("Crack") = 20 kg of marihuana**
1 gm of "Ice" = 20 kg of marihuana***
1 gm of Khat = .01 gm of marihuana****
My conclusions:
* Alpha-methylfentanyl is ten times worse than heroin.
** Crack is one hundred times worse than blow.
*** But Ice is as bad as crack!
**** Congress is soft on Khat.

Why is marijuana the base line for comparison? Because it's heavy?
1 marijuana cigarette is the same as 64 ounces of booze.
4 regular cigarettes are the same as 12 ounces of beer.
1 smoke of crack cocaine is the same as 3 cartons of cigarettes.
1 dose of LSD is the same as 2 gallons of wine.
The DEA should have an authorized drug expert try out all the drugs in a controlled setting (padded room with stereo, TV, food, couch, books) and plot how fucked up he/she got versus how much fun he/she had on each drug. The gold standard. Weighing drugs is dumb.

I think the reason that khat is cool with authorities is because there are a lot of people who come from war-torn countries who are mentally screwed up because they were paid to kill at age 14 and rather than pay to help them transition easier to America they would rather let them have their khat and smoke it here.
You should definitely bring this up in your class and preface it by saying that you heard it on NPR.

I wish I had come from a war-torn country. Then I could wile away the hours high on Khat, not a worry in the world.
All my classmates giggled at the marijuana tables, "Twenty kilograms? That's a lot of weed!"
None of them are going to be accepted to the bar now. Our class was being recorded.

What ever happened to free market captilism? The last thing we need is drug values being fixed by government beauracrats.
Drugs are just bad, you should try to use Herbal Alternatives as a temporary replacement to loose the dependance!
